READING

Readers learn to study characters by noticing their actions and how they talk. They will use these observations to to grow theories about characters, to determine what kind of person the character is, and then dig a little deeper by asking, ‘Why is the character this way?’ Readers will use everything they have learned about the character they ares studying and how stories usually go (the story structure) to make predictions about what will happen in the story.

WRITING

As writers work on their final piece for this unit, they will think of all the new information and strategies they have, to write persuasively. They will complete research to gain more background information on their topic which will create stronger reasons and evidence. As writers, they will make decision to revise their drafts to create stronger pieces to convince their audience and get them thinking  or feeling certain ways.

MATH

Mathematicians will begin their week in math digging deeper into the concept of locating fractions on a number line. Students will use number bonds to represent parts of a whole and label fractions on number lines with end points 0 and 1.

Building on this knowledge, students will begin to place whole numbers on a number line and label points at and between whole numbers with fractions or the fractional equivalent. For example, students will create a number line with endpoints 2 and 4, and will label label the whole number endpoint marked 2 with an equivalent fraction such as 4/2.

Key vocabulary:
-equivalent — equal to
-end points

SOCIAL STUDIES

The students group research projects continue this week as the look to answer the inquiry questions they created together. Each class will have a refresher lesson on note taking strategies before continuing their research.
The groups have created 4 questions in relation to their country. Each person will research 2 of those questions, using a variety of sources. Books and the ES Library Visual Tab.
All the while remembering our essential question, 'How does culture shape communities around the world'.
